EST Gee appears to be warming up in his long awaited return
After almost a year and half we finally receive a new project from Geeski, and it delivers. ‘I AInt Feeling You’ finds Gee returning to his rapping roots. No attempted ballads, no poorly autotuned melodic hooks, just Gee spitting over a series of hard trap beats. This 12 Song “album” has a major mixtape feel to it, as it truly seems to be tailored to day one EST fans. This album isn’t overly polished, but it’s budget is noticeable as Gee raps over several flips classic trap beats, and even snags a Travis Scott Feature on “Houstatlantaville”.
The major strengths of this album as always come down to Gee’s authenticity and delivery. Throughout Gee’s career he’s rapped about severe pain and monumental losses he’s suffered, and raw emotion he raps with is never questioned the pain and anger can always be felt on tracks, like ‘RIP LU MIKE”. Geeski has also become an incredibly underrated lyracist and and taction with the bars, on this album he’s fully in his rap bag going in and out of different flows and especially highlighting at times a faster paced aggressive flow which is where I feel like he truly shines, and lucky for me the bonus edition features three songs perfect for this. And as always there’s a couple standout tracks that are more so inteded to be the banger like “Slime” where Geeski catches a unique flow for the hook and absolutely scorches his verses.
Even as a biased EST fan I have to point out a couple flaws with the project, and no flaw has stuck out to me more then his increasing use of this lean delivery. I call it a lean delivery because it sounds like he’s in the studio rapping off a gallon of mud. I hate this flow where Gee appears to be mumbling through his lines 100 ft away from the mic. This flow has become a constant factor over his last few projects and it may be being used to expand the sound into the realms of artist like Rylo but i truly can’t stand it from Gee. Unfortunately as well see of the topics feel recycled and safe, I would like to see EST Gee expand his content and touch more on the pain or emotions he’s gone through. He’s showed numerous times he’s got the capabilities to do so and I’d love to see him look into expanding then topics on his next project.
Overall I felt like this was great reintroduction to EST Gee. I don’t think its intended for a huge audience it feel like a project for his true EST fans and signals a welcome back , and warm up to the game.
