The NFL season has finally concluded and now it’s time to transition to caring about the NBA, and boy has it been a hell of a season. Luckily I am here and I am ready to help all of my fellow football fans who don’t have the time to care about the NBA while football is on get caught up.
LUKA IS A LAKER
Yes, you read that right, Luka Doncic 25 year old, 5x 1st team ALL NBA selection is now a member of the Los Angeles Lakers. The Dallas Mavericks were scared to commit to one of if not the single best young talent in the league because he likes to have an extra plate of pasta and some beer, and traded him for minimum return (Anthony Davis, Max Christie, and 2029 1st round pick), and on top of that THEY DIDN’T EVEN SHOP LUKA TO OTHER TEAMS. The Mavs reached out to the Lakers and no other team and got what they deserved for such an asinine move.
Major Names Moved At The Deadline
Jimmy Butler to the Warriors, De’Aaron Fox to the Spurs, Brandon Ingram to the Raptors and many more. This was one of the best trade deadlines in recent NBA memory major names were moved and many team trajectories were changed. Luka deserved his own little paragraph but the rest of these trades were no slouches. Here’s a quick rundown of some major moves:
Jimmy Butler to Warriors, Andrew Wiggins to The Heat
Fox to the Spurs, Lavine to the Kings, Chicago got their own 1st round pick back and some bums
Mark Williams to the Lakers, Dalton Knect Cam Reddish 2031 1st round pick
Brandon Ingram to the Raptors
De’Andre Hunter to Cleveland
Kuzma to the Bucks
A Changing Of The Guard, Young Teams Shining
The youth of the NBA appears to be growing up right in front of us. Young cores across the league have matured and don’t just seem ready to win regular season games but look ready to compete in deep playoff runs. SGA is leading the young OKC core to the best record in the league. Darius Garland, Donavan Mitchell, and Evan Mobley are pacing the eastern conference. The Memphis Grizzlies are second in the western conference being led by Ja Morant, Josh Jackson III , Desmond Bane, and whole lot of other young players contributing. The Rockets are currently a top 4 seed led by Segun, Jalen Green, and two platoons worth of young wings. Hell even Cade Cunningham, Jalen Duren and the pistons are growing up as they currently hold a top 6 seed in the east. It appears it’s time to get used to start seeing some new franchises at the top of their conference standings and maybe even see making some deep playoff runs.
Disappointing Seasons
There’s a number of teams not living up to their early season expectations. Led by the 76ers who have been embarrassing this year, the Orlando Magic, Golden State Warriors, Phoenix Suns, San Antonio Spurs, and the Atlanta Hawks are all teams who were expected to make the playoffs and fight in the post season that are going to have to fight hard the second half of the season to earn a chance.
Jokic Historic Season , and the MVP Race
Nikola Jokic is continuing his dominance across the league. The Serbian Center is putting together his most impressive season yet averaging 29.7pts 12.7reb 10.3ast all in 36.2min, these would all be career highs if they hold. Jokic has to be the clear MVP favorite as of right now but there are some names creeping in the dark. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander is nipping at his heels with an impressive 32.8 5.3 6 while controlling the number one seed. Giannis Antetokounmpo, and Jayson Tatum are both also having incredible seasons and could be dark horse candidates. And from a media narrative side of the award keep an eye out for Karl Anthony-Towns who’s leading the Knicks back into prominence, and of course Lebron James who at age 40 is averaging 24.5 7.8 9 on 51.6% 39.1% splits.
Get Ready For Incredible Playoff Matchups
Now that the NBA deadline is over and the dust is starting to settle there are some incredible line ups with star duos that look to be primetime television match ups. Whether it be the proven champions like Jokic and Murray or Tatum and Brown, or one of these newly formed pairs like Karl Anthony-Towns and Brunson, Lebron and Luka, Steph and Jimmy Butler, or even Fox and Wemby, there are potential blockbuster series and must watch matchups in every round.
