HEARTBREAK: Recapping My Thoughts 24 Hours After The Bill’s Loss

To say I’ve gone through emotional turmoil over the last 24 hours may be the understatement of the century. I’ve gone from rage to depression, from feeling too sick to eat, to binge eating to try and bury the pain I’ve felt it all and after 24 hours i feel as though I am now in a good place to recap the game and my feelings following.

I struggle to know where I aim most of my anger at. Do I aim it Sean McDermott? maybe Joe Brady? Should I just unleash my rage on Pat Mahomes, Andy Reid, and The Corpse of Travis Kelce? Nope, I know it must be the ref who deserve this wrath! FALSE, this anger can not be pointed at just one entity no I have too many emotions and thoughts to let just one subject be the focus of this emotion.

SEAN MCDERMOTT (BIN LADEN)

Two things can be true in life, Sean McDermott can be an elite head coach who has turned around the Bill’s organization, it can also be true every time Sean McDermott has to step up in a big game he fails and is left with his tail between his legs like the abused dog he is. At the end of the day fair or unfair Sean McDermott has to face the majority of the blame. No Coach McDermott isn’t responsible for Benford being knocked out of the game, but as the head coach and a defensive head coach at that McDermott is responsible for Elam coming in the game and looking like he won a make a wish contest to suit up in an NFL game. Elam was BBQ chicken out there Sunday night, and McDermott’s inability to make defensive adjustments played a major role in this loss. On top of his inability to make adjustments on the defensive side, I would’ve had to be born last night to believe Sean McDermott had nothing to do with the asinine decision to constantly run that embarrassment of a tush push. Again even though McDermott is not an offensive coach he is in charge of the culture, Tom Brady and the Patriots could always QB sneak for that needed yard, Jalen Hurts and the Eagles can always get that one yard, somehow 6’5″ 237lb Josh Alllen consistently could not get the one yard needed and that comes down to culture. When the game needed him most Sean McDermott was never anywhere to be found, every year like clockwork Andy Reid outcoaches McDermott on the biggest stage of the year and at a certain point you have to wonder to yourself when enough is enough. So yes Sean McDermott Bin Laden congratulations you are number one on my shit list.

JOE BRADY

Oh Joe you didn’t think I’d let you off the hook that easily did you? Let me preference this with I have loved Joe Brady and everything he’s done for the Bill’s since taking over as OC, but that doesn’t mean he gets to skate by. I really only have a few critiques of Joe still I thought overall the offense looked decent I thought he found a way to settle Josh down and have the Bills in a position to win this game late. Unfortunately when that position arose Joe Brady suffered a stroke, a concussion, possibly just a flash of early on set Alzheimer, but somehow this hot shot GM forgot what had been working in the game and failed to get James Cook a single touch. James Cook merely had 16 touches for 134 yards and was clearly the Bills most productive player, instead Joe Brady started the Bills last drive with a Ty Johnson run for a one yard loss. My other critique of Joe Brady again comes down to that failure of a tush push. Brady’s consistent commitment to a play that was clearly not working tonight has to be held against him. At some point you need to have a different play ready it is the AFC Championship game you should’ve played all your cards but instead you stayed committed to a failure of a qb sneak, that in the end cost the Bills a chance to win this game.

The Officials

I understand that as a fan I am my opinion is skewed and my bias is clear. Yes I thought Josh got the first down on the 4th & 1 keeper, yes i thought Cole Bishop did enough to disrupt and compete with Xavier Worthy to force an incompletion on that 26 yard completion, yes I felt as though there were several questionable calls such as the “facemask” penalty committed by Kaiir Elam. At the end of the day to be the champs you have to beat the champs and the apparent whistle they get too.

Pat Mahomes and The Chiefs

At the end of the day the nightmare continues. Such as in Star Wars Episode V the bad guys won… again. The cycle repeats itself another year of building up hope and belief that , this right here this time its our year, all the be kicked back into place. Pat Mahomes and those red uniforms will haunt me forever. No matter what the scenario Pat Mahomes works his black magic and comes out on top. Andy Reid continually embarrasses Coach McDermott in ways that almost elate an emotion of pity as it feels like McDermott walks into a gun fight with a butter knife every year. And to top it all off we have to put up with the corpse of Travis Kelce continuing his streak of cornballness gloating and celebrating with his gf, who just happens to be the biggest pop star since Michael Jackson. There is no pretending or avoiding it the Chiefs put the Bills over their lap every year and spank us, putting us back in our place.

Hope

Despite the heartbreak, despite the constant embarrassment I will be right back here next year, and so on. Bills fans have to remember we have Josh Allen (Who played quite well again against the Chiefs), we have James Cook who continues to improve and impress, we have young players who are studs and, the structure to continue and improve on defense. Most importantly we have a fan base and culture that deserves it. Buffalo fans have been through hell from 4 Super Bowl Losses in a row, to the Trent Edwards era , to the Nate Peterman game, and still they are loyal and committed. This team is too talented and supported by too many great people to allow one’s self to sink into depression and sorrow. Us Bills fans deserve hope and happiness, so I will continue to buy into this team every year because deep down I still believe in them deep down I know this fan base deserves a Super Bowl.
