300+ Days Away From Super Bowl LX Let’s Take A Look At The First Power Rankings Of The Upcoming Year
REMNDER this power ranking is being released before the draft, before free agency, before the entire off season. These rankings reflect my personal predictions on how these franchises will perform through the off season and this upcoming season. So without further adieu lets get to the rankings.
Tier 7: Don’t Waste Your Time
These teams are the bottom of the bottom, fans please don’t waste your time getting your hopes up for even a second.
32. New Orleans Saints
There’s nothing to look forward to here the roster is bad there’s no cap, nothing to look forward to. At least the Saints can welcome their new HC Kellen Moore as Super Bowl champion.
31. Tennessee Titans
Since the firing of Mike Vrabel this team has had nothing to look forward to, I don’t expect the the number one pick in this upcoming draft to change much. The roster has some bright spots but the organizations seems to be run by imbeciles.
30. Cleveland Browns
Myles Garret wants out, Nick Chubb is injured again, and oh yea Deshaun Watson is eating up monster cap to not play again. You maybe wondering why the Browns aren’t 32 on the rankings, but in the end I believe Kevin Stefanski is a good coach and that’s more then you can say for anybody with a leadership role in Tennessee.
29. New York Jets
Letting Aaron Rodgers go is a step in the right direction but this organization still appears lost. Who knows maybe this year the Johnson family will be too concerned with politics and won’t have time to put their hypothetical trades into Madden.
Tier 6: They Don’t Have A Chance … Or Do They?
These teams have a better shot of fighting for the number one draft pick next year then a playoff position… but what if?
28. Las Vegas Raiders
There are a million and one reasons the Raiders should be in the previous tier. No QB, no explosive weapons, their defense is bad, and oh yea Mark Davis and his haircut are still running around, BUT for some reason I have slight a hope for this team. Whether it be Tom Brady being around now, Pete Carroll coaching on the sideline, or the potential to draft Shedur Sanders, there’s something stopping me from writing this team all the way off.
27. New York Giants
Now in no way am I trying to understate the dumpster fire the NY Giants are and have been for years now. The Mara family and Joe Schoen can’t seem to get anything right, from roster construction, including most notably letting their franchise player walk for nothing, and oh yea he then had a historic season and won a SB with division rival Philadelphia. The Giants do however have elite young defensive talent including perhaps the best DT in the league Dexter Lawrence. And on the offensive end Malik Nabers is an incredibly promising young talent. Despite consensus opinion, I also happen to believe in Brian Daboll as a coach and leader.
26. Miami Dolphins
The Dolphins are a team on a downward trajectory. Mike McDaniels is a boy genius the problem is a coach needs to be a man, Tyreek Hill made a public decree after the season he wants to be moved, and their franchise QB is an injury waiting to happen. All this said however if healthy this Dolphins offense can explode for 70 (literally)
25. Dallas Cowboys
Another team here on a downward trajectory. This Cowboys team is like a gallon of milk that expired weeks ago , and everybody except for Jerry Jones can smell the rot. This team is in desperate need of a rebooted roster and exciting coach, instead they will roll out another season of a Dak Prescott offense this year just led by, checks notes… Brian Schottenheimer.
24. Jacksonville Jaguars
This placement is solely based on a belief that Trevor Lawrence now on his third NFL Head Coach, young offensive hot shot Liam Coen, will finally unlock Lawrence the way he was predicted to before his draft. An offense with a fully unlocked T-Law slinging it to a young stud Brian Thomas Jr. on the outside definitely has the potential to make some noise.
Tier 5: Teams Ready To Take A Step
These are teams that should be ready to take a step this year. At the very least they should be in the hunt graphic at the end of the season.
23. Indianapolis Colts
The Colts and Jags could easily be swapped on this list, however the colts have found a way to be in the hunt for the playoffs each of the last 2 years with inconsistent QB play at worst. GM Chris Ballard has been lackluster these last few seasons and third year HC Shane Steichen hasn’t lived up to the hype. Steichen has however managed to go 17-17 over those two years with a platoon of QBs including Gardner Minshew, Joe Flacco, and Anthony Richardson. If Anthony Richardson shows any sign of improvement this year from what was the worst QB in the league last year this team should be competing for the AFC south.
22. Carolina Panthers
Yes the Carolina Panthers are a team ready t take a step. I realize this team is talent deprived, they have major holes on both offense and defense and yet there is hope. Dave Canales proved he can coach this team to compete, despite his abysmal 1-7 start to the year Canales never lost the locker room and finished the year 4-5 and competing in every game. On top of Canales proving himself as a leader Bryce Young appeared to prove himself as a franchise QB. After his early season benching Young came back and balled out with a subpar group of receivers. This team has strong bones and should be a sneaky competitive this upcoming year.
21. Arizona Cardinals
This Cardinals team NEEDS to take a step this year for the job security of HC Jonathan Gannon and QB Kyler Murray. The Cardinals were 6-4 last year before falling apart and finishing the season at 8-9. The Cardinals are loaded with talent and need to find a way to maximize that talent consistently, a missed playoffs this year could be catastrophic to Gannon and Murrays reputation around the league.
20. New England Patriots
Enter Mike Vrabel. Vrabel is a proven HC who establishes tough cultures of competitive teams. The Patriots seem to have their franchise QB, a true number one corner, and a top four draft pick. This offensive line is bad but I expect Vrabel to get right to work on that issue. The this team posses with Vrabel’s leadership should be a recipe for a competitive team ready to make a major leap in the standings.
19. Chicago Bears
The team around the league expected to take the biggest step forward is none other then Da Bears. This organization went through hell last season and somehow Caleb Williams survived, and now enter Ben Johnson. Chicago won the Ben Johnson sweepstakes this offseason and now the boy genius will take the reigns of this historic franchise in hopes of maximizing the potential of Caleb Williams.
Tier 4: Last Chance or Blow It Up
These teams need to make the playoffs this year to avoid some uncomfortable talks.
18. Seattle Seahawks
Mike McDonald in his first year led this Seahawks team to a 10-7 record and barely missed the Playoffs. Unfortunately it feels like a make or break year for the Seahawks. They’ve been in NFL purgatory through the Geno Smith years. Geno puts up monster numbers but has yet to prove himself as a QB you can truly compete with. Seattle isn’t good enough to compete and isn’t bad enough to get a top pick. If they miss the playoffs again this year it may be time to move on at QB.
17. Pittsburgh Steelers
Mike Tomlin, 9-8, first round exit, repeat.
16. San Francisco 49ers
We’ve seen their seasons can go in polar opposite ways based on these last two seasons. It appears as though this team may be headed toward bottoming out, but Shanahan has proven he deserves a shot if healthy this team is loaded with talent and could go on a run.
Tier 3: Competing For the Division
This group of teams aren’t the heavy hitters but should be competing for their division and high seeding through the regular season.
15. Denver Broncos
Yes, I think the Broncos are clearly the third best team in their division and they are closer to the bottom then the top, however, Sean Payton turned this team around, Bo NIx showed potential and got playoff reps in his rookie year, and a legit defense anchored by DPOY Patrick Surtain. You can’t rule the Broncos out as a dark horse in AFC West.
14. Minnesota Vikings
Kevin O’Connell had led the Vikings to an incredible 34-17 record and two playoff appearances through his three years in Minnesota. It appears as though rookie JJ McCarthy will be under center this year and after seeing what KOC got out of Sam Darold last year, expect JJ to come out impressing and Minnesota to continue to compete.
13. Tampa Bay Bucs
The Bucs have established themselves as a consistent threat in the NFC South. Baker Mayfield has found a home and established himself as on e of the best gunslingers left in the league and Mike Evans continues to produce, as always keep an eye out for this NFC South team to put up big points and win big games.
12. Atlanta Falcons
Big Penix Energy. Kirk Cousins held this offense back in many ways through last season, enter Micheal Penix Jr. The rookie went out there last year and brought much needed life to this Falcons team. Look for Penix to impress in his first season as a fulltime starter, and star RB Bijan to continue to improve and dominate as defenses will now not be able to just key in on Robinson all season.
11. Los Angeles Rams
The Rams will look to retool their offense this offseason, but with HC McVay, WR Puka and their young dominate defense look for the Rams to be in the top half of teams through the year.
Tier 2: Championship Dark Horse Contenders
10. Green Bay Packers
If the Packers can improve their receiver corps watchout. Jordan Love is a young gunslinger with an X factor, Matt LeFleur is an elite head coach who gets the most out of his guys and Josh Jacobs is in his prime running downhill hard. Injuries killed this team last year, if they can stay healthy and add some real threats out wide the Packers could easily be competing for a Lombardi.
9. Houston Texans
Demeco Ryan, CJ Stroud, and Will Anderson have been an impressive trio in their first two years together. This Texans team was plagued by injuries last year and yet they still found a way to compete. If CJ Stroud is the talent the league believes in year three if this team can stay healthy watchout for this Texans team.
8. Los Angeles Chargers
Year 2 of a Jim Harbaugh run organization is known for growth. Everywhere Harbaughs gone he’s shifted the culture and produced winners. The Chargers will have serious roster moves to make to improve their offensive weapons, and despite a stinker in the playoffs Justin Herbert is still on of the best young QBs in the league.
7. Washington Commanders
Jaden Daniels has proven himself in year one, he’s a playmaker of the highest standard, and he’s here to stay. Washington has cap space to make some moves and improve that horrendous defense and if that happens, watchout for JD5 and the commanders this offseason.
6. Cincinnati Bengals
Yes Cincinatti had an absolute horrendous start to the season last year, and their defense couldn’t have stopped your Grandpa and his friends from the local coffee shop from scoring on them last year. Still Joe Burrow and Jamar Chase put together in credible seasons and the Bengals finished 9-8, if their defense can take a single step forward this year we could easily see Burrow holding up a Lombardi.
Tier 1: The Favorites
These are the teams that should be Super Bowl favorites. Anything less then a deep playoff run would be a huge failure of a season for these teams.
5. Detroit Lions
Dan Campbell it’s time to stop crying and start winning. Campbell has been absolutely amazing in his Detroit tenure taking the franchise to success it hasn’t seen in decades, however all that is for nothing if they can’t get to the big game. The Lions will have to face the challenge of losing both their OC and DC to head coaching jobs thus offseason, but with a defense fully healthy and offensive weapons galore thus Lions team will be a force.
4. Kansas City Chiefs
Is the dynasty over? This chiefs team got exposed in the Super Bowl and didn’t appear as though they even belonged on the same field as the Eagles. Questions on Kelce’s future remain ongoing, and just as many questions about the Chiefs offensive line remain. The Chiefs will be bringing back a healthy Rashee Rice, and a now seasoned Xavier Worthy who continued to improve with every snap last year. With these two and whatever other pieces are placed around Mahomes you can never rule out the Chiefs.
3. Buffalo Bills
The Bills were massive overachievers last season. In a “rebuilding” year they just happened to make the AFC title game again and Josh Allen managed to win his first MVP. The Bills need to resolve any off season issues with James Cook sooner then later, and the secondary must be addressed, but this Bills team is tough and appears to be on the uptick.
2. Baltimore Ravens
The Ravens were the best team in the AFC last year. Injuries and self inflicted mistakes shot down any Super Bowl dreams they had. Lamar has been the best QB in the regular season over the past two seasons and its time he shows he’s that same quality of player in the playoffs. The combination of the Ravens elite run game spearheaded by Jackson and Derrick Henry, and their hard hitting defense is that of a super bowl champion.
1, Philadelphia Eagles
The Eagles are still the best team in the league at this moment, They control both sides of the ball at the line and have elite talent at every level following. Their well coached and have established a tough physical culture. Nic Siriani won’t let this team be complacent after last season and this team has talent to go for repeat.
